Meeting the demand for more intelligence and power

Describing his vision of future developments in home automation products, Mr. Ernest Wong, sales and marketing manager at Capital Prospect Ltd, said, "More and more home automation products will make use of communications protocols such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, etc."
"In Home Automation products," Wong continued, "end-users now seek more functionality than merely turning lights on and off. They need something more intelligent and powerful. So products must function as more than automated power controllers to be successful in today's market." In view of this, Capital Prospect is working to develop a series of products such as automated sprinkler systems remotely operated from mobile phones.

"And with the new technologies and added features these products will attract even more end-users," he said. However, he went on, controlling production costs remains a challenge for manufacturers, Capital Prospect's strategy to surmount this challenge is to source only the right components and not to over-design its products.

Capital Prospect has been manufacturing home automation products for 17 years, its 60.000 sq ft factory is located in Dongguan, in Guangdong Province and staffed by 200 workers.

Just a few months ago, the company launched the first item in a new line of home automation products. Model AAA+ combines home automation with an alarm system. Wong revealed that the company's plan is to continue introducing various home automation products to the market, including an automatic door opener.

He believes that market prices at home automation products will become very affordable as demand continues to increase.

For typical wireless home automation devices, it has the capacity to produce approximately 50.000 units per month. As well as handling OEM and ODM business, it has marketed products under its own brand name, "Skylink", for 15 years. Presently, Capital Prospect is serving markets in North America, in the future it will additionally target European markets. The company will be promoting its products at various trade shows this year, including the 2006, Medtrade Spring Exposition & Conference next month in Las Vegas, the Hong Kong electronics Fair in april, and the IFSEC in Birmingham in May.
